MATCHUP ANALYSES: RESULTS |
The results below are not to be considered as definitive. They will evolve as we progressively incorporate more satellite data and more in situ data into the analysis.

MERIS: Water-leaving reflectances |
MERIS matchups (in terms
of rw) at the BOUSSOLE site, including the following
wavelengths : 412, 443, 490, 510, 560, 670, 683 nm. The
same data are plotted with a linear scale on the left
and a log scale on the right, in order to highlight the
low reflectance values of the red wavelengths. The solid
line is the 1:1 line. The dotted line is a simple linear
fit on the data. The slope and intercept of this curve
are also indicated.

SeaWiFS: Water-leaving radiances |
The figure below shows the 37 matchup points obtained
for the SeaWiFS sensor, showing an overall good agreement
(average UPD is approximately 5%), yet confirming as
well that the results for the 412nm band are outside
of acceptable limits.
SeaWiFS matchups (in terms
of nLw) at the BOUSSOLE site, including the following
wavelengths : 412, 443, 490, 510, 555 and 670 nm. The
same data are plotted with a linear scale on the left
and a log scale on the right, in order to highlight the
low water-leaving radiance values of the red wavelengths.
The solid line is the 1:1 line. The dotted line is a
simple linear fit on the data. The slope and intercept
of this curve are also indicated. The number of points
is 87 (40 at 412 nm).

Aqua-MODIS: Water-leaving radiances |
Aqua-MODIS matchups (in
terms of nLw) at the BOUSSOLE site, including the following
wavelengths : 412, 443, 488, 510, 551, 670 and 683 nm.
The same data are plotted with a linear scale on the
left and a log scale on the right, in order to highlight
the low water-leaving radiance values of the red wavelengths.
The solid line is the 1:1 line. The dotted line is a
simple linear fit on the data. The slope and intercept
of this curve are also indicated. The number of points
is 85 (42 at 412 nm).

Summary
of chlorophyll matchups (MERIS, SeaWiFS, Aqua-MODIS) |
Chlorophyll
matchups at BOUSSOLE for MERIS (left; N = 17), SeaWiFS
(middle; N = 22) and Aqua-MODIS (right; N = 24). Data
from July 2001 to the end of 2003. The horizontal error
bar, for the in situ HPLC-chlorophyll, is simply a +/-30%
error bar, while the vertical error bar, for the satellite-derived
chlorophyll, corresponds to one standard deviation within
the 3x3 pixel box from which the mean value was computed.
As above, but when the quality control applied to the radiometry
matchups is used for the chlorophyll matchups.
