Zooplankton
biomass : Zooplankton
samples are collected with standard WP2 plankton nets (200 µm mesh
size) mounted on a triple ring and vertically towed from 200 m to
surface. Each sample corresponds to 50 m3 filtered sea
water. To take nycthemeral
variations due to migrating zooplankton into account, sampling is
done around mid-day and mid-night . On
board, two of the three cod-ends are separately filtered onto
pre-weighted pieces of net (200 µm mesh size), rinced with ammonium
formiate, wrapped in an aluminium fold and stored in a –18°C
freezer. The last cod-ends is kept for subsequent species
identifications. At the laboratory, each sample is dryed at 60°C
for 48h and then weighted using a Sartorius microbalance. For each
sampling, zooplankton biomass is obtained by subtracting the final
weight (net + zooplankton sample) to the initial weight of the net.
